Background on the Wine:
We have always loved our Virginia Cabernet Franc. When we first opened our doors our area winery friends told us “you better have a Cab Franc on the menu!” Our first Cabernet Franc, The Leap, was a massive success and sold out quickly. With the wet year of 2018 leaving us without a single varietal Cabernet Franc (we co-fermented our reds to make “Wanderlust” as our only red from that year), we were eager to get back to our peppery friend in 2019. Like its predecessor this wine continues to grow in the bottle. Pouring a glass you’ll find a strong jammed fruit nose, charred bell pepper on the palate, with a lingering complexity aided by the new French oak.

This wine has received medals at the Virginia Governor’s Cup and Loudoun Wine Awards, and continues to be a fan favorite to share on a visit to the winery.

More details on the process:
We purchased new barrels in 2019 to assure a continued evolution of the Waterford vines that had just entered their third full year of harvest. By aging the wine 14 months we wanted to bring about even more flavor from the barrels and elected to not blend in any of our Petit Verdot, a technique we had used on previous Cabernet Franc releases. This is a pure representation of Virginia Cabernet Franc and has held up to the barrel and shines from time in the bottle.

Background on the name:
Musical icon Elton John is special to our owners and in fact Your Song was their wedding song. The phrase “Traveling Show” appears in the lyrics and beckons us back to impromptu travel, live concerts, and road trips that make up so many great memories.
