Background on the Wine:
Oh Petit Verdot, how we love you. In a return to our three flagship reds following a rather wet 2018, our single varietal Petit Verdot is bursting with puckering black cherry and finishes long. You may not know that owners Jon and Cori (with some help from Mark Malick and his team and Cori’s brother) hand planted more than an acre of Petit Verdot just beyond the deck at the Wine Reserve. With post hole diggers and a lot of sweat more than 535 vines were planted in an “incubation” vineyard. Though the vines were taken up in 2020 to make way for a new vineyard install we will always remember the work that went in to this particular varietal.

More details on the process:
In 2019 we harvested the Petit Verdot about a week after the Cabernet Franc to get the brix up a bit. It was a slight gamble that paid off as Lost Somewhere has already grown strong in the bottle. We purchased new barrels in 2019 to assure a continued evolution of the Waterford vines that had just entered their third full year of harvest. By aging the wine 14 months we wanted to bring about even more flavor from the barrels.

Background on the name:
The name “Lost Somewhere” is based on a Dave Matthews Band lyric – one of favorite artists – and DMB’s live shows bring us back again and again just like the flavors of Virginia Petit Verdot.
